AI in the PACS, with the radiologist in charge

In Bayan, AI engines look at a study and mark what they find on the image. Each finding is a suggestion: the radiologist accepts it, edits it or rejects it, and decides what the report says.

How it works in the viewer

When a study arrives, an engine that fits the exam can analyse it. Its findings appear on the image in the reading viewer, each one marked as coming from AI.

  • Accept a finding and it goes into the report.
  • Edit it when the engine is close but not right.
  • Reject it and nothing of it reaches the report.
  • The reading itself never waits for the engine.

What the center controls

The center chooses which engines run and for which exams, sees how often each engine's suggestions are accepted, and can switch an engine off at any time.

What AI does not do

AI does not sign reports and does not replace the reading. The radiologist remains responsible for the report, and a suggestion that nobody accepted is not part of it.

Questions centers ask

Does AI write the report?

No. It suggests findings. The radiologist decides which ones enter the report, and signs it.

Can we turn AI off?

Yes, for the whole center or for one engine, at any time.

How do we know whether an engine helps?

Bayan shows how often the radiologists accepted, edited or rejected each engine's suggestions.
