PACS data residency in Saudi Arabia: what to ask a vendor

Where patient images are kept is a question of law, of contract and of trust. A center should get the answers in writing before the first real study is stored.

Questions to ask

Put these to any cloud PACS vendor.

  • In which country and with which provider are the images stored?
  • Where are the backups kept?
  • Who at the vendor can open a study, and is that recorded?
  • Is our data separated from other customers?
  • How do we get our data back if we leave?

How Bayan answers

For centers in Saudi Arabia, hosting inside the Kingdom is our plan, and the contract names exactly where your data lives before any real patient study is stored. Each center is isolated, images are encrypted in storage with a key per center, backups are encrypted, and every open is written to an audit log.

A note on the rules

Regulation changes, and it differs by kind of facility. Check your own obligations with your compliance officer or legal adviser; this page is not legal advice.

Questions centers ask

Is Bayan hosted in Saudi Arabia today?

Hosting inside the Kingdom is the plan for Saudi centers. Your contract states the location before real patient data is stored.

Can the vendor see our patients' images?

Access by the operator is limited and recorded in the audit log.

Do we get our data back if we leave?

Yes. Your studies remain yours, and they are returned in DICOM.
