The problem it solves
When a technologist types the patient's name and number at the console, small mistakes follow: a spelling, a digit, the wrong accession number. The images then do not match their order, and someone has to fix it by hand.
How it works
The order is created in the RIS or HIS. The modality asks for its worklist over DICOM and receives the scheduled exams. The technologist selects the patient, and the scanner writes that identity into every image.
- The order and identity come from one source.
- Nothing is typed twice.
- Images and report meet under the same accession number.
Where the gateway comes in
In Bayan the gateway in your center answers the worklist question for your modalities, using the orders that came from your RIS or HIS.
Questions centers ask
Does every modality support it?
Most CT, MR, digital X-ray and ultrasound units do. Older units may need it enabled by the service engineer.
What if an exam is done without an order?
The study still arrives. It is matched to its order later, with a record of the match.
Is worklist the same as the reading list?
No. The modality worklist is for the scanner. The reading list is what the radiologist works from.
